Saint Zygmunt Gorazdowski was born November 1 1845 in Sanok, Podkarpackie in the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, Austria-Hungary which is now Poland. He died on January 1 1920 at the age of 74 years in Lviv, Ukraine. Saint Zygmunt Gorazdowski Life History
St Zygmunt Gorazdowski was also known as Zigmund Horazdowski, Servant of God and “Father of the poor and priest of the homeless”.
He was baptized at a Franciscan church on November 9 1845.
In an incident in 1846, he almost died during the Galician slaughter when there was a revolt by peasants against serfdom. His parents hid him under a mill’s wheel and he survived.
Initially he had joined the Law School but his call to Priesthood overpowered his law career. In 1866, he Joined priesthood at the Latin Catholic Institute.
During his studies, Gorazdowski suffered from tuberculosis which troubled his studies for the priesthood such that he had to defer his studies from 1869 to 1871 to recover before he could be ordained.
Once he finished his studies and got ordained on July 21 1871 in the Lviv Cathedral. He was posted in various parishes where he started setting up homes for single mothers and orphans and hospices. He also wrote catechism and other religious notes for his parishioners.

Gorazdowski’s father was Szczęsny Gorazdowski (1813-May 1903) and mother was Aleksandra Łazowska. They had married in 1843. His paternal grandfather was Szymon Gorazdowski and grandmother was Maria Dobrzańskich.
