St Germanus of Paris, also known as Germain or Father of the Poor, was an abbot and bishop of Paris, France. He was born in 496 AD, near Augustodunum, Gaul (Modern-day Autun, France), and died on May 28 576 in Paris, France. We celebrate his feast day on May 28 every year in the Catholic Church.

St Germanus of Paris Life History
St Germanus of Paris was ordained as a priest in 530 AD in Autun, France by Saint Agrippinus of Autun. He later became the abbot of the Monastery of Saint-Symphorien.
He became the Bishop of Paris, France in 555 AD after he was nominated by King Childebert I. St Germanus influenced the construction of a Church in the king’s court which after his death was renamed Saint-Germain-des-Prés. This Church became a royal burial place.
St Germanus taught and ordained Saint Bertrand of Le Mans and also became the spiritual teacher of Saint Droctoveus.
After he died on May 28 576 in Paris, France his body was interred in a tomb in the chapel of St Symphorien. In 754 AD, his relics were re-shrined in the church by order of King Pepin the Short.
