St Iosephus Chang Song-Jib was a Korean pharmacist who converted and became a Roman Catholic Christian at the age of 53 years in April 1838.

One year later he was arrested and put in prison by the Korean government which was persecuting Christians.

Some of his friends urged him to denounce his Catholic Christian faith but he remained steadfast in his resolve to defend his faith.

Joseph Chang Song-Jib was beaten thoroughly with a wooden board and the following day on May 27 1839 he died in Seoul Prison. After two years his brother, St Anthony Kim Song-u also died a martyr.
