St Asterius was also known as Astericus. He was a priest under Pope Callistus. When Pope Callistus was killed, he secretly buried him and as a consequence, he was drowned in the Tiber River at Ostia, Italy and martyred by the order of Emperor Alexander Severus.Â
His body was recovered and buried in Ostia and his relics were enshrined in the cathedral in Ostia.
