July 30 2024: Bible Verse of the Day: Parable of the Weeds in the Field, The Righteous will Shine Like the Sun in the Kingdom of Their Father – Matthew 13:36-43 – Tuesday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time

40 Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.
41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his Kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.
42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. – Matthew 13:36-43

Today’s Bible Verse of the Day Reflections

Jesus explains to us what the Kingdom of Heaven is like using the parable of the weeds in the field.

Just to recap about this parable, Jesus explains that the field is the world, the good seed is the children of the Kingdom and the weeds are the children of the Evil One.

The enemy who sows these seeds is the Devil, the harvest is the end of the age and the harvesters are angels.

In this parable, there are children that are mentioned. Those who are the children of the evil one are those people who do not do the will of God.

They are the same people who do not listen, understand and believe in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. The children of the Kingdom of God are the ones who do the will of God.

The main thing here that will distinguish between those who will burn in hell and those who will shine like the sun is doing the will of God or not.

So, what is the will of God? It is to know Him, love Him, serve Him, praise and glorify Him all the days of our life. This statement sounds like a cliche but this is where the rubber meets the road.

The biggest hurdle that people encounter while they live here on earth is failure to know who God is. Most people think they came into existence by default.

But once people know that they were created by God, then the trajectory to salvation starts in earnest. It is then that you start to realize the purpose God created you for. Then you will realize how relevant all teachings of the Holy Gospel are in your life and actions.

The devil is the one who comes and sows the bad seeds in people and as such, they fail to know and understand God.

But the good thing is that the Good News has been preached to everybody and it is upon all people, out of their free choice, to choose to believe in the Good News or be stuck with the lies of the devil.

Jesus tells us candidly to choose to believe in the Good News because the rewards are great in Heaven as opposed to the devil where those who choose the devil will burn and grind their teeth in hell.

Therefore, let us repent and follow the teachings of the Holy Gospel of Christ so that we become the children of the Kingdom of God and on the last day we will shine like the sun.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, we would like to shine like the sun in the Kingdom of God on the last day. We, therefore, pray that You forgive us our sins and give us the strength to avoid the invitations that may lead us into sin. Jesus, I love you. Amen.
