Daily Mass Readings for June 5 2024, Wednesday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time
1st Reading – 2 Timothy 1:1-3, 6-12
1 From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God’s will, sent to proclaim the promised life which we have in union with Christ Jesus
2 To Timothy, my dear son: May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy, and peace.
3 I give thanks to God, whom I serve with a clear conscience, as my ancestors did. I thank him as I remember you always in my prayers night and day.
6 For this reason I remind you to keep alive the gift that God gave you when I laid my hands on you.
7 For the Spirit that God has given us does not make us timid; instead, his Spirit fills us with power, love, and self-control.
8 So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for his sake; but bear your share of hardship for the Gospel with the strength that comes from God.
9 He saved us and called us to a holy life, not according to our works but according to his own design and the grace bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before time began,
10 but now made manifest through the appearance of our savior Christ Jesus, who destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel,
11 God has appointed me as an apostle and teacher to proclaim the Good News,
12 and it is for this reason that I suffer these things. But I am still full of confidence, because I know whom I have trusted, and I am sure that he is able to keep safe until that Day what he has entrusted to me.
Responsorial Psalm – Psalms 123:1B-2AB, 2CDEF
R. (1b) To you, O Lord, I lift up my eyes.
1B To you I lift up my eyes
who are enthroned in heaven.
2AB Behold, as the eyes of servants
are on the hands of their masters.
R. To you, O Lord, I lift up my eyes.
2CDEF As the eyes of a maid
are on the hands of her mistress,
So are our eyes on the LORD, our God,
till he have pity on us.
R. To you, O Lord, I lift up my eyes.
Alleluia – John 11:25A, 26
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
25A I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord;
26 whoever believes in me will never die.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel – Mark 12:18-27
18 Then some Sadducees, who say that people will not rise from death, came to Jesus and said,
19 “Teacher, Moses wrote this law for us: ‘If a man dies and leaves a wife but no children, that man’s brother must marry the widow so that they can have children who will be considered the dead man’s children.’
20 Once there were seven brothers; the eldest got married and died without having children.
21 Then the second one married the woman, and he also died without having children. The same thing happened to the third brother,
22 and then to the rest: all seven brothers married the woman and died without having children. Last of all, the woman died.
23 At the resurrection when they arise whose wife will she be? For all seven had been married to her.”
24 Jesus said to them, “Are you not misled because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
25 When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven.
26 Now, as for the dead being raised: haven’t you ever read in the Book of Moses the passage about the burning bush? There it is written that God said to Moses, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
27 He is the God of the living, not of the dead. You are completely wrong!”
