Today’s Bible Verse of the Day Reflections
We know that Jesus is Lord. We know that when He was here on earth as true God and true man, He suffered immensely but later He ascended to heaven happily.
Jesus tells His disciples that when they chose Him, they will have to forfeit the joys and merry of this world.
Choosing Christ is choosing the narrow path that leads to heaven but is filled with suffering that emanates from forfeiting the earthly pleasures.
These earthly pleasures are like idol worship, drunkenness, immorality, drug abuse, love for material wealth etc. When you engage in such behaviour, automatically you start straying from following the teachings of Christ.
Jesus had to prepare the disciples psychologically for the sufferings they would encounter. This is why every one of them was so courageous when meeting his death.
This is what Jesus Christ is trying to tell us today. That while we are here on earth we will have to suffer, weep and mourn for the sake of the Kingdom of God. What the world does is the opposite of what God expects the world to do.
The silver lining is that after all this suffering paradise awaits us in heaven where we will join the communion of Angels and Saints to live happily forever in the presence of God.
Prayer: Jesus Christ, You have told us that we have to face suffering here on earth and after that, we will have everlasting joy.
We, therefore, ask you to convert for us all sufferings we will encounter to a yoke that is good to bear and burdens that are light. Amen.
