Blessed Andrea Gallerani’s Life History

Blessed Andrea Gallerani, born in the 13th century in Siena, Italy, to a noble family, initially pursued a distinguished military career.

His life took a turn when he was exiled for killing someone who was a blasphemer. Subsequently, Andrea dedicated the rest of his life to performing acts of penance and showing mercy.

Upon his return to Siena, Italy, he established a hospital and the Frati della Misericordia (Brothers of Mercy) to provide service.

The Brothers were recognized by the distinctive cloak they wore, featuring a cross and the letter “M.” Regrettably, their association ceased to exist in 1308.

Andrea died on March 19, 1251, in Siena, Italy, and he was beatified by Pope Pius VI in Florence, Italy, on May 13, 1798, confirming his cultus.
