December 5 2024: Bible Verse of the Day – Not Everyone Who Says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ Will Enter the Kingdom of Heaven – Matthew 7:21-29 – Thursday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time, Thursday of the First Week of Advent, Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
Jesus said to his disciples:
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’
23 Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.’ – Matthew 7:21-29

Today’s Bible Verse of the Day Reflections
Today’s verse is very specific about our utility or usefulness here on earth and to God. In short, we are being reminded that we did not bring ourselves here on earth, but God did. And in so doing He had a purpose for each one of us.
When God was creating the world, He had a reason as to why He created each thing. Each thing has its own utility. A utility that is given to it by God the Creator.
So, when we do not fulfill the purpose for which we are created then we lack usefulness before God, and as Jesus says we are just evil doers.
Even if we try to do so many other things that we think are good but in essence are displeasing to our Heavenly Father then all we do will be vanity. So, how do we know what God wants?
God created us to Know Him, Love Him, Praise and Glorify Him. So, how do we achieve that? We will achieve this by loving the Lord our God with all our Hearts, Soul,s and Minds and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
Anything we try to do without the love for our God and for our neighbors, will just be a waste of our time. Jesus tells us that He will deny us.
Most of us tend to use the name of the Lord our God in vain in our conversations in order to be seen as righteous in front of people. But Jesus says mentioning his name doesn’t guarantee us entry into the Kingdom of God.
Let our love and the glory of God be manifested in our actions, not in empty words.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, help us to put our words about your love into action. May our actions speak louder than our words concerning our love for You and our neighbours too. Jesus, I love you. Amen
