Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Andrés Hibernón Real was born in 1534 in Murcia, in the south of Spain, from a noble family of Cartagena. Andres was baptized in the city cathedral where his uncle was a chaplain. His uncle educated him with love in his duties towards God. His generous spirit led him to save a good dowry for his sister and therefore, without neglecting his religious duties, Andrea worked hard day and night, saving even the smallest amounts of money.
At twenty he thought of returning to the family, bringing with him all the amount of his earnings, but on the way he was attacked by brigands, who stripped him of everything he owned.he was and took it as a sign from God that riches had no value and vowed to devote himself to spiritual riches.
On 1 November 1557, Andrea joined the Franciscan Friars Minor in the convent of Albacete. He visited the sick with priests and spent endless hours in meditation and prayer.
In February 1563 Andrea moved to the convent of Elche, of the Discalced Franciscans. The following year he witnessed Saint Pasquale Baylón, received the habit. Andrea remained until 1574 near Elche. He was again assigned to establish a convent in Valencia, Spain. He became friends with San Giovanni de Ribera, Archbishop of Valencia.
Between 1574 and 1584, Andrea served, according to need, in the convents of Elche and Valencia. At the invitation of the Duke of Gandia, he also sanctified the convent of that city with prayer, work and penance.
