Blessed Angelique Roussel, Discalced Carmelite sister, proclaimed on 14 May 1769. One of the Carmelite Martyrs of Compiegne, murdered in the counter Christian oppressions of the French Revolution. Guillotined on July 17, 1794, at the Place du Trône Renversé (present day Place de la Nation) in Paris, France. Before their execution they stooped and recited the “Veni Creator”, as at a calling, after which they all renewed so anyone might hear their baptismal and religious pledges. Among eleven Discalced Carmelite nuns, three lay sisters and two laywomen workers who were martyred together in the French Revolution.
