Blessed Antonio Caixal Life History
Blessed Antonio Caixal was a Mercedarian friar who, in 1405, was chosen as 15th Master-General of the Mercedarians.
He aspired to improve its members’ interior life and harness the finances they used to ransom Christians from slavery in Muslim countries.
He served as a diplomat for the King of Aragon, Spain, and also attended the Council of Perpignan, France, and the Council of Constance, Switzerland.
Antonio Caixal was a great believer in the unity of the Church and he worked tirelessly to overcome the Western Schism. He was chosen as the bishop of Lyons, France, but declined.
He died on May 25 1417 in Constance, Switzerland.
