Blessed Benedict of Cassino was a Benedictine monk at Monte Cassino and abbot of the monastery at Capua, Italy.

He was known to live a very austere lifestyle and for charity in the neighbouring community. He died on May 22 1055 in Capua, Caserta, Italy.

His body was interred at the monastery entrance in Capua and his tomb became known as a site of miracles.

We celebrate his feast day on May 24 every year in the Catholic Church.
