Blessed’sBiography
Bl. Cesar de Bus was born on February 3, 1544, in France. Caeser was the seventh of thirteen children in an Italian family. Bl. Cesar de Bus received his education at the Jesuit College. He wrote several plays. He was military.
In 1565 he went to the court of King Charles IX (1560-74). He lived the rather superficial life of a wealthy young man, this was during the French Religion Wars.
In 1582 Caeser became a priest, and the bishop appointed him as a canon at the main church of Avignon. Caesar converted his cousin Jean-Baptiste Romillon, and together they became partners in the work of teaching and preaching. The Archbishop of Aix and Avignon encouraged young men to follow their example. He supported the two.
Caeser established a congregation (brothers of the Christian doctrine) in 1592. After establishing the congregation, he dropped all his other duties and devoted himself to work in the congregation. It was approved in 1597 by Pope Clement VIII (1592-1605). Members lived together but did not make religious promises.
This led to the split between the two leaders, but Caesar decided that it would be best for members to make simple promises. Around 1602, the community divided into two groups; one remained in Avignon with Caesar while the other went with Romillon to a house in Aix.
Death
Caeser suffered from mental illnesses. He died on April 15, 1607, Easter Sunday Avignon, France of natural causes. He was buried in Avignon, and a cult started immediately. His memorial April 15th.
