Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Domingo Iturrate Zubero was born on May 11, 1901, in northern Spain. His parents were Simón Iturrate and Maria Zubero. He was baptized the day after his birth and was named Dominicus after Saint Dominic de la Calzada. He was the firstborn and ten siblings. Domenico Iturrate received his first communion as a 10-year-old. Bl. Domingo Iturrate Zubero was confirmed on August 26, 1913. He became an altar boy in his parish and took part not only in the fair on Sundays and public holidays but also on weekdays.
Realizing his desire to be a priest he had to ask for permission from his father. Tradition said the eldest son was the heir to the family property. On September 30, 1914, he began his journey of a priest at the Trinitarian Patient’s aspirant college in Algorta in Vizcaya. Age of sixteen, Dominicus entered the Order on December 11, 1917.
Education
After the first year of philosophy, in 1919, he was sent to Rome, where he studied at the Papal University of Gregorian until 1926. Domingo Iturrate Zubero graduated in philosophy on July 3, 1922, and took both the and later theology in theology.
He lived a life of prayer and cure, and as a student he was known for his strong (religious) piety. He also had a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Priesthood and work
Dominic became priest on August 9, 1925 in the church of Santi XII Apostoli and on August 15 he celebrated his first Mass. In the monastery he was appointed assistant to the disciplinary prefect. He traveled to Africa or Latin America to offer missionary work.
Death
He died on April 81927 in Belmonte, Spain of tuberculosis.
