Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Gemma of Goriano was born in 1375 in San Sebastiano Dei Marsi, in Italy. She was orphaned at a young age. Both parents died in an epidemic. Gemma was take in by relatives and worked as a shepherdess.
She used her time in the fields to pray. Gemma courted Ruggero of Celano but eventually, Gemma turned him down as she was drawn to religious life. She impressed him with her dedication that he built her a cell next to the church of San Giovanni in Goriano Sicoli. She lived as an anchoress for her remaining 42 years.
