Biography

Blessed Giovanni da Vespignano, a man of sacred life. Who kicked the bucket in 1331, laid to rest in the religious community of S. Wharf Maggiore. Had incredible popularity in the city for having stripped himself of all merchandise for poor people (Villani Cron. X 178). The Vellutello found in him one of the two. Just of whom Ciacco addresses D. (On the off chance that VI 73), together with Barduccio, populate d’Oltrarno, and as G. object of extraordinary love for his works of philanthropy, came he too kicked the bucket in 1331; yet the theory does not hold up to a genuine analysis (see F. Mazzoni, in Nuove lett. I 169-170).
