Blessed John Hogg was a priest in England, born in 1565 in Yorkshire, England. He was imprisoned for being a Catholic Priest, then hanged and died as a martyr on May 27 1590 in Durham, County Durham, England during the persecutions of Catholic Faithful by Queen Elizabeth I.

He is one of the Martyrs of Douai and also one of the Martyrs of England, Scotland, and Wales. We celebrate his feast day on May 27 every year in the Catholic Church.

Blessed John Hogg Life History

John Hogg, together with his fellow priests Richard Hill, and Richard Holiday were natives of Yorkshire, England. They were ordained as priests on September 23 1589 in Laon, France.

In 1590, they went back to England together with another priest called Edmund Duke to evangelize to the Catholics who were being persecuted during the rule of Queen Elizabeth I.

When they were travelling, they were arrested in County Durham, England, and sent to prison in Durham. They were sentenced to death and while in prison they converted several prisoners to become Catholics.

They were beatified on November 22 1987 by Pope John Paul II
