Biography
Blessed Marie-Geneviève Meunier, Carmelite fledgling, taking the habit on 16 December 1788. One of the Carmelite Martyrs of Compiegne, murdered in the counter Christian oppressions of the French Revolution. Guillotined on July 17, 1794, at the Place du Trône Renversé (present day Place de la Nation) in Paris, France. Before their execution they stooped and recited the “Veni Creator”, as at a calling, after which they all recharged resoundingly their baptismal and religious pledges. Among eleven Discalced Carmelite nuns, three lay sisters and two laywomen workers who were martyred together in the French Revolution. They were the soonest saints of the French Revolution that have been perceived.
