Biography
Blessed Richard Langhorne, third child of William Langhorne of the Inner Temple, London, England, and Lettice, girl of Eustace Needham of Little Wymondley, Hertfordshire, England. Richard pursued his dad into the law, being admitted to the Inner Temple in November 1646, and beating the lawyer exam in 1654. He wedded Dorothy Legatt of Havering, Essex, England, a Protestant Christian; they lived on Shire Lane in London, had two children, Charles and Francis, both of whom moved toward becoming priests. Some portion of Richard’s work was to exhort the neighborhood Jesuits on legitimate and money related issues, which would cause issues down the road for him.
Being Catholic, Richard was captured on 15 June 1667, associated with contribution in the incredible flame of London in September 1666, however was discharged. He was captured again on 7 October 1678 and held up in isolation in Newgate Prison for eight months on doubt of contribution in the Popish Plot of Titus Oates. In spite of the fact that he any precluded learning from claiming any such thing, on 14 June 1679 he was discovered liable of scheming with the Jesuits to copy London, and condemned to death. A martyr.
