Blessed’s Biography

Blessed Diego de Soto was born in Toledo, Spain. Entered the Mercedes Order to become a Mercedarian monk. Spiritual student of Saint Serapion and from him; Diego learned humility and other virtues. Diego traveled to Granada to free prisoners captured by Muslims. There he was captured and imprisoned by hatred of the Catholic religion. They tortured, starved, and killed for his faith in 1237. Martyr. Diego became the second martyr of the Mercedes Order.
