Biography
Blessed Józef Puchala, baptized upon the arrival of his introduction to the world. Entered the minor theological school in Lviv (in present day Ukraine) in 1924. Franciscan Friar Minor Conventual, taking the name Achilles, and making his serious pledges on 22 May 1932. Priest, appointed on 5 July 1936. Served in the Franciscan religious circles in Grodno and Iwieniec in Poland. In mid 1940 he moved into area service in Pierszaje, Poland to help with a deficiency of priests who had been captured or fled in front of capture by the Gestapo during the Nazi occupation and oppressions of World War II. Captured, tormented and in the end killed by the Gestapo. A martyr.
