Saint’s Biography
Saint Anastasius of Sinai was born in the 7th century in Cyprus before the Arabs came. He studied medicine since he showed a greater knowledge of the subject than most people.
He became a monk in Catherine’s monastery on Mount Sinai. Anastasius Sinaita Traveled to Damascus, Syria, and Alexandria, Egypt.
On his way to Alexandria, defended the faith in Chalcedon, urged Christians to keep their faith in the face of invading Muslims. Many Christians were banished by the new gentlemen to unhealthy surroundings, but Anastasius and the other monks shared their trials and comforted them.
He was elected abbot for the Sinai monastery. He attacked the various groups who tried to influence the Church, and he fought the Jews with such emphasis that he became known as “the New Moses.”
St. Anastasius of Sinai Death
Anastasius died around 700 AD. His memorial day is April 21st.
