Saint Macra of Rheims was brutally tortured in the place of Fismes on behalf of the formidable governor Rictiovarus because of her faith in Christ. The governor held her trial there and was imprisoned there. She died of torture.
She was buried near the place where she had given her life for Christ. Later her remains were transferred to St Martin’s church in nearby Fismes and much larger church built there in her honor. Later, on 11 June, her relics came from Fismes to the church dedicated in Fere-en-Tardenois, France.
