Saint Simon was a relative to Jesus and possibly His first cousin. He is one of the 12 disciples and was present during the ascension of Jesus and is one of the brethren of Christ mentioned in the Acts present at the birth of the Church during the Pentecost.
He is said to have been present during in the killing of Saint James the Lesser where he was chosen to Succeed him as the Bishop of Jerusalem serving for over 40 years.
In 66 AD, the Christians received a divine revelation that the City could come into destruction and fled to Pella with Simon as their leader. After the destruction of Jerusalem, he led the Christians back where they stayed in harmony performing miracles and converting many to Christianity. Simon was eventually arrested, Tortured and killed for the crime of being both a Jew and A Christian during the Trajan persecutions.
