Daily Mass Readings for May 10 2024 – Friday of the Sixth Week of Easter
st Reading – ACTS 18:9-18
One night while Paul was in Corinth, the Lord said to him in a vision, “Do not fear, but speak; and do not be silent,
Because I am with you: and no man shall set upon you, to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.”
And he stayed there a year and six months, teaching among them the word of God.
But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
saying, “This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”
And when Paul was beginning to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of some crime or malicious fraud, I should with reason hear the complaint of you Jews;
but since it is a question of arguments over doctrine and titles and your own law, see to it yourselves. I do not wish to be a judge of such matters.”
And he drove them from the judgment seat.
And all laying hold on Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, beat him before the judgment seat; and Gallio cared for none of those things.
Paul remained for quite some time, and after saying farewell to the brothers he sailed for Syria, together with Priscilla and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had shaved his head because he had taken a vow.

Gospel – John 16:20-23
Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen I say to you, that you shall lament and weep, but the world shall rejoice; and you shall be made sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
A woman, when she is in labour, has sorrow because her hour has arrived; but when she has brought forth the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for joy that a child is born into the world.
So also you now indeed have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice; and your joy no man shall take from you.
And in that day you shall not ask me anything. Amen, amen I say to you: if you ask the Father anything in my name, he will give it to you.
