August 12 2023: Bible Verse of the Day – Saturday of the Eighteenth week in Ordinary Time, Monday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time – Healing of the Boy Possessed By a Demon – Mark 9:14-29, Matthew 17:14-20, Luke 9:37-43

Someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I have brought to you my son possessed by a mute spirit.
Wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive it out, but they were unable to do so.”
He said to them in reply, “O faithless generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I endure you? Bring him to me.”

Bible Verse of the Day Reflections

Jesus is disappointed with the disciples and also us the people! Why is He disappointed? Because of our lack of faith in His powers over the demons.

He lamented that He was just with them for a very limited time but they had not yet understood that even the demons bow before Him.

When the father of the boy saw the disciples of Jesus, he was sure that his son will get the healing that he most wanted.

The disciples themselves had what it takes to drive out the demon. They had the anointing and power of prayer. But they didn’t achieve this because of their little faith.

Had they prayed in the name of Jesus and also rebuked the demon, it could have surely left the boy completely.

Jesus wanted the disciples to understand that for them to achieve something like that, they had to attribute it to Jesus Christ.

We are therefore called on today to always have faith in Jesus when we face any difficult situation. When we feel like we are not accomplishing something, we should result to prayer to God.

We learn this from when Jesus told the disciples, “That kind of demon can only come out through prayer.”

Everything on earth has been handed over to Jesus by God. Therefore, let us know that anything we ask of God our Father through Jesus Christ in prayer will be given to us. A Prayer prayed in faith can move mountains.

Therefore, let us leave our sinful ways and come back to God our Father. With our faith, although small like a mustard seed, and through prayer to our Lord Jesus Christ, we will surely ask and we will receive, seek and we will find, knock and the doors will be opened for us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, we acknowledge that we sometimes lack faith in You. Increase our faith so that it may become as small as a mustard seed and we will be on the right path that will lead us to the Kingdom of God. Amen.
