Silvester I became the Pope and bishop of Rome on January 31, 314 AD, a position he held until his death on December 31, 335.
As the bishop, he convened the Council of Arles in 314 AD to address the Donatist Controversy. He also convened the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD to address the Arian controversy.
He oversaw the construction of several churches, including Old St. Peter’s Basilica, the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, and the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran. He collaborated with Emperor Constantine I on the Lateran Basilica and Baptistery.
