Jesus Rebukes Simon Peter Because of Judas Iscariot – John 21:20-25

Bible Verse of the Day – Saturday of the Seventh Week of Easter

20 Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved, the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper and had said, “Master, who is the one who will betray you?”
21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”
22 Jesus said to him, “What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours? You follow me.”

John 21:20-25

Today’s Bible Verse of the Day Reflections

Simon Peter was a true human being, if I am allowed to say that. This is because he did not let anything to pass without having to comment about it.

In today’s verse, we see Peter asking Jesus about Judas Iscariot intended death. The immediate context of the above verse is where Jesus talks about the kind of death Peter and other disciples would have so as to glorify God. Here Jesus insists that despite that death, they should follow Him.

Now, here Peter starts to digress from his call to follow Jesus and asks about how Judas should die. Jesus rebukes him and tells him that’s none of his business. Judas’ condemnation had already been made and there was nothing Peter would have done about it.

So, Jesus tells us today not to preoccupy ourselves with things or issues that are beyond our mandate. Our mandate is to go to the whole world preaching the Good News and bringing souls closer to God.

Christ reminds us not to condemn anybody because that’s not our work but God’s work on the last day. Let us hear the teachings of Jesus Christ and avoid distractions in our mandate to preach the Gospel of Christ.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for Your call to serve You. We pray that You help us avoid straying away from our call to serve You. Help us not judge others but bring them closer to You. Amen.
