Blessed Marmaduke Bowes Biography
Bl. Marmaduke Bowes was a hitched layman and father. Dreadful of the mistreatments of the day, he was a secret Catholic who put in appearances in the Established church to fend off the specialists.
He protected ministers on the run and had his kids raised Catholic. In 1585 his kids’ mentor was captured and influenced to apostatize, turn source, and reprove Bowes for helping clerics.
Bowes and his significant other were captured and detained in York; she was discharged, however, Marmaduke was indicted on the announcements the coach. The first layman executed under the law that made helping clerics a crime.
