Saint’s Biography
St Ida of Metz was the daughter of bishop Arnoald of Metz. She was the sister of Saint Modoald of Trier and Saint Severa. Ida was married to Saint Pepin of Landen. They were blessed with three children (Saint Gertrude of Nivelles, Saint Begga of Ardenne, and Grimoald, mayor of the palace). After her husband’s death, she built a Benedictine double monastery at Nivelles, Belgium under the leadership of her daughter, Saint Gertrude. Ida was a grandmother of Pepin of Herstal. Saint Amand of Maastrich and her were great friends who worked together to help the poor and spent the rest of her life there as a nun.
