Today’s Bible Verse of the Day Reflections
Today, Jesus has a very important message to us through Mary and Martha. The message is, always yearn and aspire to be in the presence of God.
It is our human instincts or behaviour that tell us that when a visitor comes to our home, we should cater for their needs like food, drink, and comfort. I am sure all of us would have done like Martha and despise Mary for being lazy and unhelpful.
But today, Jesus has a different message for us, that when we are in the presence of the Lord we should leave other activities and concentrate on listening to His Good News.
How is this verse applicable in our world today? This is how. Yes, we have different careers, jobs, businesses, and professions, and we have to dedicate our time to them because we still praise and serve God through them.
But when we are called upon to dedicate our time to be in the presence of God, let’s give 100% of our time and concentration to doing just that.
For example, we are supposed to leave all other worldly activities and attend masses, Small Christian Communities, Adoration and Benediction, or other sessions that involve serving, praising, and glorifying God.
It is in these places that we encounter God firsthand the same way Mary did. Let’s not be like Martha whereby we continue doing other worldly activities instead of being in the presence of the Lord.
Jesus tells us that there is a need for only one thing and we will have chosen that when we give God the first priority in our life.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, we give you the first priority in our life. We relegate all other activities to lower priorities. We, therefore, ask you to give us the strength to overcome any other thing that can influence us to forsake you. Help us to seize any opportunity that comes our way where we will get to know you more and more. Jesus, I love you. Amen.
