Biography
Pope Saint Zachary was born in 679 AD. He was the Son of Polichronius, but little is known of his early life. Zachary was a Deacon. He was also the advisor to Pope Gregory III.
He was the 91st pope. The First, pope after Saint Gregory the Great to not seek imperial confirmation on his election. He Negotiated peace between the Lombards and the Greek empire.
He restored the Lateran palace and many churches around Rome and encouraged the missionary work of Saint Boniface, and appointed Saint Abel as archbishop of Rheims, France.
When the Venetian slavers had already bought slaves at Rome to sell to Saracens in Africa, Zachary bought them all so that Christians should not become the property of heathens. Translated the Dialogues of Gregory the Great into Greek. Majority of his actions among the royal powers of the day continued to echo for many more centuries.
Death
He died 22 March 752 AD of natural causes. He is buried at Saint Peter’s Basilica, Rome, Italy
