Saint’s Biography
Saint Aleth was born in the 1000s of Burgundy in France. She was the daughter of Count Bernhard of Montbard and in a family with the Dukes of Burgundy. She was married to a nobleman. Her husband ruled over Burgundy and Champagne.
Family
The marriage was blessed with highly gifted children six boys and one girl. The most famous is Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, who was born around 1090. Bernhard was the third of the siblings, the others were Guy, the Blessed Gerhard , the Blessed Humbeline, Andrew, Bartholomew and the Blessed Nivard .
Death
Aleth died in 1105 in Dijon. Her remains were in 1110 in the monastery of St. Benignus in Dijon. In 1250 her remains were moved to Clairvaux and sheltered there. Her memorial day is April 4th. Sometimes she is pictured with her son Bernhard.
