Saint’s Biography
Saint Alferius was born in 930 in Italy. He was of Norman origin and belonged to the mighty Pappacarbone family. in 1002 St. Alferius was sent to France as ambassador by Duke Guaimaro. Alferius became ill and entered the San Michele monastery in northern Italy.
Death
Alferius died on April 12, 1050, in Cava Dei Tirreni, and was 120 years old. He died alone in his cell after he had celebrated the Mass and washed his brothers’ feet. Among them was Desiderius, who would later become the Blessed Pope Viktor III (1086-87).
