Saint’s Biography
Saint Ansfrid of Utrecht was born in the 9th century in Belgium. He was married to Hilsondis and after their daughter birth; they lived as brother and sister. He was a courtier and knight.
In 992 he built a convent at Thorn, Netherlands, which his wife and daughter entered. St. Ansfrid wanted to become a monk. But in 994, Emperor Otto III would reward him for his military successes. Years later St. Ansfrid realized his calling and in 974 he gave up his life as a soldier. When he was hit with blindness in 1006, he withdrew from his duties and realized his desire to make monastic promises.
Death
He died on May 3, 1010, in Amersfoort, Netherlands of natural causes.
