St Asterius of Edessa was an executioner of Christians who later converted to Christianity. He was born in the 3rd century AD in Syria and died in 284 AD at Edessa, Mesopotamia during the Christian persecutions in the reign of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius Numerius Numerianus. We celebrate his feast day on May 20 every year in the Catholic Church.
