St Basilla of Rome, also known as Babilla, was a Christian lady and niece to Emperor Gallienus. She was born in the 3rd century AD, was beheaded, and died as a martyr in 304 AD in Rome, Italy during Christian persecutions. We celebrate her feast day on May 20 every year in the Catholic Church.

Saint’s Biography

Saint Basilla of Rome was the niece of the Emperor. She converted to Christianity and was baptized by Pope St. Cornelius.

Basilla refused to marry a pagan patrician with whom she had an arranged marriage. He wanted her to give up her belief.

She was beheaded in Rome in 304 and buried in the catacombs on Via Salaria outside Rome.
