Saint’s Biography
Saint Berardes of Morocco was born in Italy. Franciscan monk, who was admitted in 1213 by St. Francis of Assisi himself in the Order. Priest. Preacher. Spoke Arabic. Party leader of the group sent to minister to the Muslims in Morocco. On their arrival, they began to preach in the marketplace. They were immediately arrested and ordered to stop. When the group continued to preach, they were beaten. When they refused to reject Christ, the sultan beheaded them. Berardes died on 16 January 1220 in Morocco. His relics were ransomed and are now in the Monastery of the Holy Cross in Coimbra, Portugal.
