Saint Bertille Biography
St. Bertille was born in France during the reign of King Dagobert I. She became a friend as well as a spiritual student of St. Ouen of Rouen. He wanted to join the pious life but delayed thinking that her parents would oppose the move.
Apparently, they never opposed and became a Benedictine nun at the convent at Jouarre, Brie, France. She served as a convent headmistress, prioress and later became the abbess of the abbey at Chelles as from 646 AD after restoration by Saint Bathildis to her death. During her reign at the convent, they attracted many nuns including a queen and several princesses.
