Saint Blaise Biography
Blaise was a Bishop in Sebaste, Armenia. He lived in a cave on Mount Argeus.
He was a healer of men and animals. It’s told that sick animals could come to him on their own seeking for help. However, they could not disturb him while in Prayer.
The governor of Cappadocia, Agricola went to Sebaste to persecute Christians. His followers went into forests to find wild animals and found many waiting outside Blaise’s cave. He was in prayer and therefore they arrested him. Agricola tried him to revoke his faith but he refused.
While in prison, he ministered and healed fellow prisoners, including saving a child who was chocked by fish. This is the reason as to why we have the blessing of the throat in Blaise feast day.
He was thrown into a lake to die. However, he stood on the surface and challenged his persecutors to walk out and show the mightiness of their gods. They all drowned. When he returned to dry land, he was killed through beating and his flesh was torn with wool combs. Lastly, he was beheaded.
