Saint’s Biography

Saint Blitmund of Bobbio was born to the noble family in the late 6th-century in France. He lived as a hermit along the River Somme in Leuconay. Blitmund built a chapel and two cells in 611 and brought a hanged man back to life. From that day people saw him as a miracle worker and holy man. In 615 AD, he was paralyzed and healed by a friend. He then became a monk at Valery‘s monastery.

In 620 AD local pagans destroyed the monastery. He led a group of monks to Bobbio, Italy, where they founded the community in a monastery established by Saint Columban.

Blitmund returned to Leucone, France where he lived for a year as a hermit before building another abbey in 627. He served as its abbot and made Leucone a site of pilgrimage, piety and learning, and a hub for an evangelization that converted the region.
