Saints Crispin and Crispinian Life History
Saints Crispin and Crispinian are also known as Crispinus and Crispianus respectively.
They were brothers and hailed from a noble Roman family. They evangelized together in Gaul in the mid 3rd century AD.
They worked from Soissons, France where they preached in the streets by day, and made shoes by night to support themselves and the poor.
Their charity, love of God, and love of austere life impressed many who converted to Christianity due to Crispin and Crispinian’s way of life.
They were condemned to death by emperor Marcus Aurelius Valerius Maximianus who hated Christians. The prefect of the area, Rictiovarus, tried to torture them but they escaped death.
Consequently, emperor Maximian ordered that they be beheaded. Crispin and Crispinian died as martyrs of the faith in Jesus Christ.
