Biography
Saint Elijah the Prophet, Old Testament prophet. He declared to Achad, King of Israel, who affected by his Tyrian spouse Jezabel had raised a sanctuary to Baal, that Jehovah had resolved to retaliate for the disaffection of Israel by expediting a long dry season the land. During the dry spell which kept going three years, Elias pulled back to the region of the stream Carith, where he was bolstered by the ravens.
After the creek had evaporated he traversed to Sarepta, where he was affably gotten by a poor widow, whose philanthropy he remunerated by expanding her store of feast and oil and by bringing up her tyke to life. Finally he again stood up to the lord and provoked the prophets of Baal to a challenge on Mount Carmel, when Elias’ oblation devoured by flame from paradise, and the bogus prophets were killed by the general population at his direction.
Obliged to escape from the anger of Jezabel and keeping in mind that on Mount Horeb was appointed by Jehovah to bless Hazael to be King of Syria, Jehu to be King of Israel, and Eliseus to be his very own successor. Hence he criticized Achab for the homicide of Naboth and condemned Ochozias and Joram, King of Juda. While chatting with Eliseus on the slopes of Moab he was meant paradise in a searing chariot. The Carmelite Order follows its root to him. A fanciful Apocalypse of Elias mostly recuperated in a Coptic interpretation.
