St. Findan of Rheinau Biography
St. Findan of Rheinau was also known as Findanus. He was captured by Norse raiders who murdered the rest of his family. Findan was forced into slavery in the Orkney Islands. He escaped to Scotland and headed to the south becoming a pilgrim to Rome, Italy. He served as a monk at Farfa Abbey in Italy. Later he moved to serve as a monk and hermit in Rheinau Abbey in Switzerland for 22 years.
