Saint George Preca Biography
Saint George Preca, the seventh in a Christian family with nine children, the son of Vincent Preco and Nathalie Ceravolo. His father was a merchant and health inspector. George was a sick child. Studied at the Lyceum and Major Seminary in Malta. A severe respiratory disease in the seminary almost killed him, but he recovered through the intercession of St. Joseph. During his studies, he began to write a Latin rule for a planned society of permanent deacons. Ordained on December 22, 1906.
After ordination, he changed his understanding of society. He started teaching by the water and worked with the roughest men. He gathered a group of young catechists, including the Servant of God Ewgenju Borg, and founded the Society for Christian Doctrine in Hamrun, Malta in 1907. The motto of the society is represented by the letters MUSEUM: Magister Utinam Sequator Gospel Universus Mundus! (Master, that the whole world is following the gospel!) And they wanted to bring the Bible and theology to the lay and working classes.
Educate the working class on what is so revolutionary Father George was accused of insanity and who had once ordered to stop his operation. He had more turmoil in his plan to educate laymen and women and send them out to proclaim God's Word wherever they would listen.
In many communities, catechism centers were opened to the society, which taught young and old and gave children a place where they could not get into trouble. Who simply went through the movements of worship, often without knowing why. The bishop of Malta approved the society and its rule in 1932.
Father Preca wrote and wrote in Maltese, the language of ordinary people. From leaflets to books, George has published about 150 works. He had a special devotion to the mystery of the Incarnation. Popular preacher, sought after confessor, and believed to have been a wonderful healer. The company continues its work today with centers in Malta, Australia, Sudan, Kenya, Peru, the UK and Albania.
