St. Giles Mary-of-Saint-Joseph Biography
St. Giles Mary-of-Saint-Joseph was born to a religious family. After his father’s death, he took up the trade of rope maker to support his mother and siblings. Having a Christian background, he applied to Friars Minor of Saint Peter of Alcantara in Italy at age 25.
Giles wanted to become a priest but never had enough education which had him become a lay brother. He became the gate-keeper at his monastery a position which made him interact closely with those in need.
He developed a special ministry with the sick traveling outside the town to help the isolated Carrying an icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary depicting Our lady of the Well.
