Saint’s Biography
Saint Henry of Coquet was born in Denmark in the 11th century. Faced with the prospect of having an unhappy marriage in his home country, he instead settled abroad. He then went to the monastery in Tynemouth in England. Henry lived as a hermit here on Coquet (Cocket) Island off Northumberland without the pressure of family and friends. Joined no order, but lived with monks at Tynemouth, England. He died on January 16, 1127, on Coquet Island, England of natural causes and buried in the church of Blessed Virgin at Tynemouth, England.
