St Marcian of Tortona was a convert brought to the faith by Saint Barnabas the Apostle. He was an evangelist in Tortona, Italy and the first Bishop of Tortona Italy.
Here he served for 45 years. He was Martyred in the persecutions of Hadrian. Marcian may be the Saint Marcian of Ravena
Quite a number of people have argued that St Marcian is the same person as Marcian of Ravenna. Records from the eighth century attest to his Bishopry.
In response to the construction of a church in honor of the saint, Walafrid Strabo, indicates that Marcian was the first bishop of the Tortonese community and a martyr.
