St Peregrine of Auxerre, also called Peregrinus, was the first bishop of Auxerre. He was born in the 3rd century AD in Rome and died as a martyr in 261 AD in Bouhy, France. We celebrate his feast day on May 16 every year in the Catholic Church.

Saint’s Biography
Saint Peregrinus of Auxerre was sent by Pope Sixtus II as a missionary to France to serve as the first bishop of the region. Peregrinus worked with Saint Curcodomus of Auxerre.
He was killed by order of the imperial governor of the area as he tried to disrupt the ordination of a temple to the pagan god Jupiter in 261.
